UN may consider draft resolution on new sanctions against N Korea

The UN Security Council may consider the draft resolution on new sanctions against North Korea next week.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in a briefing in Beijing today that all the permanent members of the UN Security Council agreed on a new draft resolution regarding North Korea's nuclear program.

On September 5th, Pyongyang launched three ballistic missiles in the direction of the Sea of Japan. Several days later it conducted successful test of a nuclear warhead, which is believed to be the fifth and largest blast since Pyongyang began pursuing nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

The incidents have sparked concern in neighboring Japan, as North Korean missiles reached Japanese waters after flying over 600 miles from the launch site during early September's ballistic test.

The UN Security Council condemned the test as a repeated violation of the its resolutions.
