Iconic India Gate is being illuminated in orange colour this evening to commemorate International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed each year on November 25th around the world. <br/><br/>Delhi Metro is also displaying the messages of ending violence against women on panel boards of its traffic lines. Hundreds of monuments across the world are also being lit orange as part of United Nation's 'Orange the World' campaign effort to galvanise support for global action to end violence against women and girls.<br/><br/>According to UN Women, the United Nation's agency for gender equality, a staggering one in three women in the world have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. <br/><br/>It is expected that the colour orange, which has come to symbolise a bright and optimistic future free from violence against women and girls, will help unify the large-scale social mobilisation. <br/><br/>Prevention is the theme of this year's UNiTE campaign, a 16 days -long activism against Gender-Based Violence starting from today and lasting upto 10th December, the International Human Rights Day.

UN launches campaign for action on violence against women
