UN launches blueprint for online child protection

The UN telecoms agency on Wednesday launched a blueprint for online child protection, as experts warned that children must be accompanied on the Internet in the same way as they are in the real world.<br/> <br/>International Telecommunications Union chief Hamadoun Toure said in Geneva today that the Child Online Protection guidelines would evolve every year to keep up with fast moving changes in web interactivity, content and technology.<br/> <br/>They advocate a mix of government-led enforcement, parental control, education and technical controls or filters to tackle issues.<br/> <br/>The series of guidelines published online today were drawn up by a group of experts from child welfare groups, the IT and telecoms industry, regulators and law enforcement agencies.<br/>
