UN investigation concludes alleged crime by Congo as genocide

A United Nations investigation has concluded that crimes allegedly committed against Rwandan Hutu refugees and Congolese Hutus during a long war in the Democratic Republic of Congo could be classified as genocide. The draft report sheds light on the ten years of atrocities committed against civilians on the Congolese territory between 1996 and 1998. About 29 human rights officials documented through hundreds of pages what they called widespread and systematic attacks by the Rwandan army and the Congolese rebel movement. The Rwandan Government dismissed the report as rubbish saying its army never carried out such acts.
