The UN Deputy High Commissioner For Human Rights Kyung-wha Kang arrived in Kathamndu on Monday on a three day official visit. She is to request the extension of tenure of her office’s Nepal Mission OHCHR-Nepal which is ending on June 9. The UN’s human rights body has formally sought a two-year extension of it’s Nepal office. During the three day visit , Kang will be advocating for the swift establishment of two transitional justice mechanisms: the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearance and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to ensure truth, justice and redress for victims. UN Office of High Commission of Human Rights said that the deputy commissioner will also advocate for the implementation of recommendations provided by UN member states during the Universal Periodic Review of Nepal's human rights situation in January this year.Meanwhile, the External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M Krishna will arrive from New Delhi on a three day visit to Nepal on Wednesday. He will be accompanied by Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao. This will be the highest level visit from India since Jhala Nath Khanal took over as Prime Minister of Nepal on February 3rd. Our correspondent reports, the timing of the visit is important as parties in Nepal are sharply divided over the peace and constitution roadmap.
