The United Nations Human Rights Council’s international independent fact-finding mission looking into the Gaza flotilla incident on 31st May, is visiting Turkey and Jordan to interview witnesses and government officials. According to a statement of UN, received by AIR today, technical and legal specialists will accompany the three-member mission, chaired by Judge Karl T. Hudson-Phillips, on the two-week visit to the two countries. The other members are Sir Desmond de Silva, and Shanthi Dairiam.The mission has just spent two weeks in Geneva, where it drafted its terms of reference and held talks with diplomats, including the ambassadors of Israel and Turkey. The 47-member, Geneva-based Council had voted on 2 June to dispatch the mission to inquire into incident regarding the flotilla, which had departed to Turkey and was bound for the Gaza Strip. AIR west Asia correspondent reports that the mission is slated to present its report at the next session of the Council in September.
