UN chief urges world to speed up aid to Pak

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged the world to speed up aid to Pakistan after devastating floods which the government says have affected 20 million people. Mr. Ban is in Pakistan to visit some of the worst-hit areas. He will meet both Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit to the country. Media reports say the outbreak of epidemics in the flood-hit areas is regarded as a serious threat. The UN confirmed yesterday at least one case of cholera among the victims.Meanwhile ,Former Cricketer and Pakistan's Tehrik-e-Insaaf party Chairman Imran Khan says that the lack of credibility of the Pakistani government is the reason why local and foreign donors are not providing adequate aid for victims of the country's worst floods. He said that the government is corrupt and no one trusts it. Speaking at an iftaar dinner for donors of the Shaukat Khanum Hospital last evening, he said expatriates and foreigners had approached him and asked him to receive funds from them for the flood victims, as they had fears that if they deposit money in the government's relief fund, the amount will not reach the deserving.
