United Nations Chief Ban Ki-moon is to set up an expert panel to advise the Secretary General on the way forward on accountability issues stemming from alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka during the LTTE war. UN Chief Spokesperson Martin Nesirky, said the UN Secretary-General telephonically spoke to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday evening and informed him of his intention to go ahead with the establishment of a Panel of Experts. The conversation took place after High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed concern at the continuing human rights violations in Sri Lanka and asked the government to investigate all human rights violations that occurred during the conflict.
