UN chief Ban Ki-moon has asked both Israeli and the Palestinian side to re-start peace talks to bring an end to the conflict in the region. After attending a meeting of the Middle East Quartet US, EU, Russia and the UN Secretary General Ban said the Quartet, the international community and the parties, need to make all efforts to find a way forward to re-start negotiations to end the occupation. He said that the talks should lead to an independent Palestine and a secure Israel. The talks halted, last year, after Israel refused to extend its 10-month moratorium on settlement construction in the Palestinian territories. In the wake of the stalled negotiations, the Palestinians are also planning to move the United Nations in September for recognition of a state on the pre-1967 lines.
