The UN aid Chief Valerie Amos has called for a pause in hostilities to help ease the humanitarian crisis in Libya. Describing the situation in the besieged port of Misrata as dire, she said widespread shortages were paralysing the country. The longer the current situation continues, the graver the humanitarian situation will become, Valerie Amos told the UN Security Council in New York today. She said the conflict has disrupted the supply lines and sanctions have derailed the arrival of commercial goods leading to widespread shortages.
