The UN has called on the Afghan authorities to do more to protect women from violence. The UN's assistance mission in Afghanistan said that despite the introduction of a law last year to curb violence against women many women and girls was still subject to abuses. It said many officials were unaware of the new protection law or were unable or unwilling to implement it.
