The Madhya Pradesh Government’s Cottage and Village Industry Department has bagged United Nations Public Service Award for year 2013. United Nations honours outstanding public welfare works at international level under various categories every year.
United Nations Public Service Award is being given to state’s Cottage and Village Industry Department for novel initiative of rural haats. Principal Secretary of the department Smt. Kanchan Jain will receive this award on 27th of the next month in Bahrain’s capital Manama The state government has handed over management of rural haats to women’s self-help groups with a view to strengthen them. This move has produced good results. The women self help groups have become more self-reliant economically and participation of women in social decisions has been ensured.
