UN appeals for $1.6 bn aid for Pak

The United Nations has appealed for an additional $1.6 billion to help Pakistan recover from last month's devastating floods. Officials said the money raised would be used to help 14 million people over the next year and to rebuild roads and bridges. UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon said the floods in Pakistan represented the biggest challenge his organisation had ever faced. He said Pakistan was not facing just one humanitarian crisis but many at once. In some places flood water is still spreading and millions are waiting for help.
