The UN atomic agency on Friday confirmed the existence of raw uranium in Libya after US news channel reports that the new regime forces had found potentially radioactive material. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) spokeswoman Gill Tudor has said they can confirm that there is raw uranium stored in drums at a site near Sabha in central Libya. She said that the uranium, stored by the government of Muammar al-Gaddafi, had been declared to the IAEA and that it hoped to be able to examine the material once the situation in the country stabilises.
