The Home Minister on Thursday said that there have been significant gains with regard to containing ULFA. Mr. Chidambaram said that except for two or three ULFA leaders, most of them have been arrested and that the dialogue with a number of insurgent groups in Assam is at an advanced stage. He said, that the talks are progressing with major groups and was hopeful of a settlement soon. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said the state government is ready to take all the necessary steps for peace talks the moment it gets signal from the banned ULFA. The Centre has already said that the talks can be held if the ULFA gives up its demand for sovereignty and abjures violence.<br/><br/>Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a meeting in Guwahati, he said, efforts are on for the peace talks and these are going in a positive direction. To a query if he would offer safe passage to the ULFA leaders, Mr.Gogoi said, they will be given all the facilities required for the talks. The Government will take all the necessary steps for the discussions.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, jailed ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa who along with Raju Baruah were apprehended on the India-Bangla border on the fourth of this month is said to be ready for a political solution to the insurgency problem.
