Ukraine crisis: Russia's Deputy PM in EU's list of 15 people to face sanctions

The European Union has released a list of 15 more people on whom it will place sanctions for their role in the Ukraine crisis. The list includes General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.The EU says, the measure is in response to Russia's failure to take concrete action to reduce tensions in Ukraine.Denys Pushylin, a pro-Russian leader in Donetsk, is also included in the list. He is believed to have contacts with a group that is occupying local government offices in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. The EU and the United States yesterday agreed to step up sanctions against Russia.The US sanctions target a Putin aide who is the President of Russia's state-run petroleum company and energy-related firms. The EU sanctions target separatists. The EU is reluctant to launch full-scale economic sanctions because of its close economic ties with Russia.
