U’khand: Congress Legislature Party to meet to elect new leader

In Uttarakhand, Congress Legislature Party will hold a meeting today to elect the new leader following resignation of Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. Bahuguna submitted his resignation to the Governor in Dehradun yesterday. According to party sources, Congress observers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Janardan Dwivedi and the Party’s Uttarakhand incharge, Ambika Soni will visit Dehradun today to attend the Congress Legislature Party meeting.

The demand for Bahuguna's removal from the post of chief minister had been doing the rounds for a long time. His resignation comes after Congress President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with senior party leaders in Delhi on Wednesday.

Union Minister Harish Rawat has emerged as a strong contender to succeed him.
