UK student visa issues must be sorted: Indian envoy YK Sinha

India has expressed concern over the massive drop in number of Indians visiting the United Kingdom for studies and has called for sorting out of visa issues. Y K Sinha, who took charge of Indian High Commissioner to UK in London last month, highlighted the sharp contrast between rising Indian student numbers in countries like the US and Australia and even across Europe. <br/><br/>Addressing a media gathering at India House in London last evening, he said, the number of Indian students in UK that was around 40,000 in 2010 has dropped to 19,000. Mr Sinha said, 1 lakh 4,000 Indians studied in US in 2010, and today the number is 1 lakh 66,000. He said, UK universities are doing a great job but issues regarding visas need to be sorted out. He added that it is an area where both the governments are talking to each other.<br/>'<br/>The envoy also flagged the issue of movement of professionals as another area of concern as the UK, which he said, remains the first port of call in Europe for Indians due to a shared history and other commonalities.
