UK brought back cap on entry of professionals from non-EU Countries

The British government today announced that the interim cap on entry of professionals from non-EU countries including India that was removed by the British High court last week has been brought back. In a statement to Parliament , Immigration Minister Damian Green said that necessary changes have been made in the measure after the court struck down the interim cap . He confirmed that the limit on skilled workers from outside the EU until April 2011 was now made legal after changes had been made in light of the ruling.Last week, the high court had ruled that the interim cap was 'unlawful' on the ground that the measure has been introduced without parliamentary scrutiny. The cap was one of the first measures of the coalition government that promised to bring down immigrations from hundreds of thousands every year to tens of thousands. A permanent cap will be in place from April 2011.
