President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said Ujjawala Yojana for providing LPG connections to women will empower them.<br/><br/>At a function in Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Pradhan Mantri LPG panchayat, Mr Kovind said Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY) has brought smiles on the faces of crores of families.<br/><br/>Mr Kovind complimented Petroleum ministry's target to distribute LPG connections to over 8 crore beneficiaries.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Petrolium Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said LPG connections aimed at encouraging rural communities to turn to clean fuel.<br/><br/>He said, it has saved lives of lakhs of women who die due to health complications arising out of use of traditional means of fuel like wood.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, over hundred women are participating in the Pradhan Mantri LPG panchayat. The Panchayat was launched in September last year.
