In Jammu and Kashmir, an amount of 125. 3 crore rupees has been sanctioned for taking up 66 projects across the state, under the flagship Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) scheme. These projects were sanctioned at a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning Committee held in Jammu under the chairmanship of State Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand. Describing the scheme as holistic, Deputy Chief Minister said that its provisions take care of every aspect that could help to make the urban centres into fully developed towns and cities. He called for judicious use of funds and quality work of the assets to be taken in hand. The Centrally-sponsored scheme, envisages augmentation of potable water in urban localities, provisions for solid waste management, improvement of drainage and sewerage and slum development. <br/>
