UIDAI generates 2 crore Aadhaar numbers in Oct

Scaling up its efforts in generating Unique Identification or Aadhaar Number, the Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI has generated 2 crore such numbers during the last month alone.

According to official sources, the department has started generating 10 lakh Aaadhar numbers per day from the 1st of October this year. So far it has generated around 6 crore Aadhaar numbers in a span of a little more than a year while more than 10 crore people have been enrolled for this number.

At present about 20 thousand enrolment stations are operational across the country for the purpose.

The UIDAI is also focusing to enroll weaker and marginalized sections of the society to provide them a proof of identity who are still deprived of any identity proof.

AIR correspondent reports that Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government.

This number will serve as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.

Each number will be unique to an individual and will remain valid for life.

It will also help providing access to services like banking, mobile phone connections and other Government and Non-Government services in due course.
