Election Commissioner A .K. Joti reviewed the progress of special drive to connect UID -Aadhar card with Election Photo Identity Cards-EPIC in Gujarat. The Review meeting was held at Gandhinagar yesterday. He also reviewed various preparations for the upcoming local body polls in the state including online e-voting system to be introduced for the first time. Mr.Joti, the former chief secretary of Gujarat, also discussed the provision of compulsory voting mandated by the state government. The Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat Mrs. Anita Karwal informed that out of around 3.19 crore voters in the state, almost two crore have already been linked with their UID cards so far. Mr. Joti was also apprised of the state preparedness for the local body elections.<br/><br/>AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that Election Commissioner's visit is significant in view of elections of eight municipal corporations in the state to be held by the year end.
