The University Grants Commission, UGC has identified 21 fake Universities and Institutions across the country. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr. D Purandeswari informed the House that maximum 8 fake universities have been identified in Uttar Pradesh.

She said All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE has identified 348 fake Institutions. The Minister said the legal action has been initiated by the UGC and AICTE. She said State governments have also been advised to take appropriate action against fake institutions.
