University Grants Commission has directed universities across the country to implement National Service Scheme (NSS) as an elective subject from the current academic session. In a written communication to Vice Chancellors of all state and central varsities yesterday, the UGC said Human Resources Development Ministry, as part of the discussion in 62nd meeting of Central Advisory Board of Education in 2013 had decided to consider making NSS as an elective subject in higher education. <br/><br/>It added now the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has designed a template of NSS curriculum for introduction of the subject as credit based elective in higher education system.'Some of the components of the curriculum include community mobilisation, shramdan and volunteerism, life competencies, social harmony and integration, yoga, health, hygiene and sanitation among others.
