In Karnataka, the by-election to one seat of Lok Sabha from Udupi Chickmagalur constituency passed off peacefully. Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr.M T Reju said that voter’s turnout stood at around 60 percent. The fate of fourteen contestants was sealed in EVMs till the results are out on 21st this month. The by-poll was caused as D.V. Sadananda Gowda quit the seat after he became Chief Minister on August 4 last year.AIR Correspondent reports, the by-election to Lok Sabha seat is said to determine the political future of Chief Minister D V Sadanand Gowda as former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa did not campaign for the party candidate here. The highlight of the election was use of Smart Information Messenger for Public and Law Enforcement Engagement SMS system. Used for the first time in the state, it kept the police updated on all activities pertaining to elections, such as rigging, Naxal attacks, EVM malfunction or any other law and order situation.
