In Kerala, the ruling United Democratic Front,UDF, has won two out of the three vacant Rajya Sabha seats for which elections were held today. The opposition Left Democratic Front won one seat.For the UDF, Prof.P.J.Kurien of the Congress and Joy Abraham of the Kerala Congress(M) was declared elected. For the LDF, the lone seat were won by C.P.Narayanan of the CPIM. In the 140-member State Legislature,voting was on party lines. Prof.P.J.Kurien got 37 votes and the other winning candidates Joy Abraham and C.P.Narayanan received 36 votes each.The fourth candidate C.N.Chandran of the CPI received only 31 votes.
