UCPN (Maoist) stresses need to replace Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace & Friendship

Nepal's main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) today stressed the need to replace the 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship. Talking to newsmen after an hour long meeting with the visiting Indian Foreign Minister S. M. Krishna in Kathmandu this evening, Maoist Chairman Prachanda said his party has put forward its concern on border issues including border problems at Susta and Kalapani.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, it is reported that Indian External Affairs Minister has expressed his deep disappointment on baseless attacks on India by the Maoist leadership and asked Prachanda to focus on taking the three-year-old old Comprehensive Peace Agreement to its logical conclusion.<br/><br/>The Maoist Chief told newsmen that his party is in favour of developing good relations with India on a more scientific and positive basis, claiming that people wanted a radical change in the society including the country's foreign policy.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist) and former Prime Minister Prachanda along with the Maoist foreign affairs in charge Krishna Bahadur Mahara called on the visiting External Affairs Minister at his hotel in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon.
