The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), Nishant, has successfully completed confirmatory trials by the Army at Pokharan Chandan Range. Nishant has been designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defence Research & Development Organization laboratory.Chief Controller of Research & Development (Aeronautics and Services Interaction), Dr Prahlada, said that Nishant is capable of being launched from a hydro pneumatic launcher, without the need of a runway. The launch vehicle can be parked in a safe area and moved to any location for launching when ever required making it very versatile. Our correspondent reports, Nishant can be used in roles like battle field reconnaissance, surveillance, target tracking & localization and correction of artillery fire. It can also be used for counter insurgency operations.
