The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the third meeting of the Libya Contact Group in Abu Dhabi. According to official Emirates news agency, the meeting will assess the international engagement with Libya and review further action to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973. The Contact Group will also discuss the best modality to support the Transitional National Council, as well as to further coordinate international efforts to support the Libyan people. The Foreign Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will co-chair the meeting today along with Foreign Minister of Italy Franco Frattini. Over 20 foreign ministers and representatives of regional and international organizations are expected attend the meeting. The Contact Group at its first meeting in April at Qatar called upon Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi to step down. At the second meeting in Rome last month the Group stressed the need for tangible support for the Libyan Transitional National Council.
