UAE bans Blackberry services from mid-October

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to bar Blackberry services in the country from mid-October citing security concerns. According to official Emirates news service, UAE’s Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced last evening that Blackberry’s Messenger, e-mail and Web browsing services will be frozen from October 11. Analysts point out that Blackberry’s well developed encryption technology has made it difficult to monitor wireless communication among users. The official statement said that all Blackberry services fall within the UAE regulatory framework developed by the TRA since 2007, however because of Blackberry's technical configuration, some Blackberry services operate beyond the enforcement these regulations. The statement added that data sent over Blackberry is immediately exported off-shore where it is managed by a foreign, commercial organisation.
