U.S. military strikes Yemen after missile attacks on U.S. Navy ship

US military has launched cruise missiles against three coastal radar sites in areas of Yemen controlled by Iran-aligned Houthi forces.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said, the strikes represent Washington's first direct military action against suspected Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen's conflict.

He said self-defence strikes were aimed at radar that enabled the launch of at least three missiles against the U.S. Navy ship USS Mason on Sunday and Wednesday.

Cook said, the strikes were not connected to the broader civil war in Yemen, which has killed more than 10,000 people since March 2015 in the Arab world's poorest country.
