Harmeet Desai has defeated Belgian Cedric Nuytin 4-2 to win the gold medal in the Under-21 men's final of the Brazil Open Table Tennis in Santos. With this win, he has become the first Indian to achieve such a feat. Desai triumphed 11-3, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6. Earlier, the fourth seed had beaten compatriot Soumyajit Ghosh in the semi-final to earn a meeting with Nuytin.
