In Japan, more than a million people were asked to evacuate their homes as a powerful typhoon approached the Island of Honshu. Kyodo news agency reported, downpours from the typhoon Roke have brought water levels to the brim and dams in the Wakayama prefecture and elsewhere are on the verge of bursting. The agency said the typhoon was picking up speed as it moves eastwards and could strike Japan's main Island of Honshu on Wednesday.It said some 1.3 million people have been ordered or advised to evacuate, including 80,000 people in Nagoya.
