In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress party MP-elect from Nandyal, SPY Reddy has joined Telugu Desam Party.
He won from the Nandyala Lok Sabha Constituency during the recent general elections on YSR Congress party ticket. Before swearing in as a member, he joined the TDP which is going to form the government in residual Andhra Pradesh state after the bifurcation process was over.
Before joining the YSR Congress party ahead of elections, Mr Reddy represented the Nandyala Constituency twice in 2004 and 2009 as a Congress member. Speaking to reporters, Mr Reddy said he has taken the decision to join the TDP keeping in view the development of the region.
Another YSR Congress party member-elect from Kurnool, Renuka also indicated to work cordially with TDP without defection. She clarified that she has not joined TDP but will extend issue-based support to N Chandrababu Naidu-led party.
With this, TDP, which has 16 Lok Sabha MPS, has got the support of two more MPs. Before Reddy's decision to part ways, YSR Congress had nine MPs in Lok Sabha.
