Two Taiwanese nationals were injured today in the Jamia Masjid area of Old Delhi when two men on a motorcycle fired several rounds on their vehicle. A red alert has been sounded across the capital after the incident took place. The injured have been admitted to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital. The injured are part of a five-member group from Taiwan which was in the capital since yesterday. One person has been detained for questioning in connection with the incident.Meanwhile, a car went up in flames two hours after the incident when a crudely-circuited pressure cooker bomb exploded about 50 metres away from the spot where the firing incident took place. A police spokesman said that they suspect involvement of a group of disgruntled youth or local criminals in the incident who wanted to create a scare in the area. Two prominent Imams of Delhi have condemned the firing incident. Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari and Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid Mufti Mohammad Mukarram Ahmad have urged the government to beef up the security in the area. BJP while condemning the shoot out expressed concern over it as it took place ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee has said, the shooting incident will not have any impact on the Games next month and assured that India would provide foolproof security to the visiting athletes and officials.
