In Jammu and Kashmir, two police personnel sustained minor injuries when suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a police party in Khanyar area of Srinagar last evening. AIR correspondent reports that on the 24th of last month, suspected militants had targeted offices of two private mobile telecommunication companies in Karan nagar in Srinagar.<br/><br/>Security has been beefed up across Kashmir valley ahead of August 15 celebrations to thwart any attempt by militants to disrupt the official functions scheduled on the occasion. Inspector General Police Kashmir Javed Mujtaba Gillani told AIR that checking across valley has been intensified with clear cut instructions on ground to ensure comfort of people. <br/><br/>He said all entry and exit points in capital city Srinagar are under close surveillance and Closed Circuit TVs have been installed at vital locations. IGP said that tight vigil is being maintained to ensure hassle free Independence Day celebrations. The vigil has been tightened on national highways in view of the recent militant attacks in South Kashmir and Udhampur highway in Jammu.
