Two Pakistanis linked to 26/11 attack arrested in Italy

Two Pakistanis linked to Mumbai terror attack have been arrested in Italy. The father and son duo are suspected of providing logistical support for the 26/11 attack. They are also accused of aiding and abetting international terrorism as well as illegal financial activity. They were detained in the northern town of Brescia, where they have a money-transfer agency. A red corner notice had been issued by the Interpol against them. According to highly placed official sources the duo had been in the list of suspects in the Mumbai attack and the Red Corner Notice was issued after the last year's strikes.

The sources said they fled from Italy to Pakistan after the attacks but returned there recently. The sources said that both were untraceable since November last year and were declared absconders. The sources said terror suspects David Headley and Tahawwur Rana, who were arrested by FBI in the US, may not know the duo arrested in Italy though they could be part of the larger plot of Mumbai terror attack. The suspects had transferred money the day before the Mumbai attacks to activate a voice-over-Internet-protocol phone account used by the terrorists and their accomplices. The Italian police began the probe in December last year after being alerted by FBI that the money had been sent from Italy.
Meanwhile according to sources Headley's father was a civil servant and currently lives in Pakistan. Headley was arrested in Chicago for plotting terror strikes in the United States and countries outside the America including India.
