In Uttar Pradesh, two more children have died due to encephalitis at BRD Medical College Hospital of Gorakhpur since this morning. With this, the death toll due to Encephalitis has mounted to 353 since January this year. AIR correspondent quoting heath officials reports that as many as 12 new encephalitis patients have been admitted to BRD Medical College hospital today. Our correspondent adds that the inflow of encephalitis patients has increased during past fortnight.The principal of BRD Medical College Dr K P Kushwaha accepted sharp increase in encephalitis cases during past two weeks. Over sixty patients have succumbed to the deadly disease during the period in the government hospitals of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions. Twelve new patients have been admitted in the hospital today as over 370 patients are already being treated in these hospitals. This year, over two thousand three hundred and thirty patients were admitted in these hospitals. The number does not include the patients who got treatment in private hospitals or did not reported to any hospital at all. The unhygienic conditions and moquitoes are said to be responsible for the vector-borne disease in terai region of the state
