In Uttar Pradesh, two more children have succumbed to the deadly encephalitis in BRD Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur during past two days. This has raised the death toll in the eastern region to 541 this year. As many as 67 patients suffering from various forms of encephalitis are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the region.Quoting official sources, AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the vaccination drive to curb Japanese Encephalitis is going on in the region, in which 92 per cent children below the age of 15 years have been vaccinated. The Additional Director, Health, U K Srivastava said that a three-day mopping up programme has begun today which is aimed at cent percent coverage of children against the disease.
