Two passengers were killed and four injured when a passenger train derailed near Belgaum in Karnataka this evening due to flash floods which washed out tracks. A railway spokesman said in Belgaum that the mishap occured when seven coaches of the Hubli-Miraj passenger train derailed 16 km from Belgaum due to flash floods triggered by incessent rains.
Railway Minister C P Joshi announced five lakh rupees to the next of the kin of the deceased and one lakh rupees for those who sustained grevious injuries. Besides, he announced 25,000 rupees for those who sustained simple injuries.
Medical relief trains were rushed from Castle Rock, Hubly and Miraj to the accident site.
