In Assam, two insurgents were gunned down and one policeman injured in two separate incidents late last night. Two Garo National Liberation Army, GNLA cadres were killed in a gun battle at Khardang area in Goalpara district. Official sources said that, acting on a tip off, a joint team of army and police launched operation at Khardang under Krishnai police station. Two pistols, ammuniations and extortion notes have been recovered from the slain militants.
In another incident, one policeman sustained injury when militants hurled grenade near Namtola police station in Sivsagar district. One vehicle was also damaged due to the blast. The militants fled away when police fired in retaliation. A massive search operation has been launched along Assam-Nagaland border to nab the culprits. The banned outfit ULFA claimed responsibility behind the grenade blast.Meanwhile; security has been intensified across the state in the run-up to the Republic day.
