In Uttar Pradesh, the special CBI court at Ghaziabad has sentenced two persons to life in jail and another to three years' rigorous imprisonment in high profile murder case of Meerut-based university lecturer Kavita Rani five years ago. While Ravinder and Sultan Singh got life terms, Yogesh was awarded three years' rigorous imprisonment by the court. The court also imposed fine of 10 thousand rupees each Ravinder and Sultan Singh and 20,000 rupees on Yogesh. They had been convicted for the murder of the lecturer on Friday by the court. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the special CBI court will initiate proceedings today against former state government irrigation minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Mairajuddin Ahmed and former primary education minister Kiran Pal, also charged with a role in the murder case. The court has directed the probe agency to conduct Norco test on these former ministers on whom the CBI had earlier conducted polygraphic tests. Kiran Pal has moved Allahabad High Court against the narco test. Kavita Rani, an ad-hoc lecturer of Choudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, was suspected to have been murdered on October 2006 when she was returning to the university from her home in Bulandshahr district. Her body could not be recovered. The investigative agency had registered a case on January 12, 2007 on the request of the state govern ment. Accused Ravinder Pradhan was died in jail on May 29, 2008 during the course of trial.
