Two-fold increase in seizure of fake currencies from India's borders with Pakistan and Nepal

The Government today said that there has been over a two-fold increase in the seizure of fake currencies from India's borders with Pakistan and Nepal since last year. However, the seizure of fake currencies from India's borders with Bangladesh has come down during that period. This information was given in a written reply by the Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran in the Lok Sabha. As far as the smuggling of food grains is concerned, more than 5 lakh 80 thousand kilograms of food grains were seized on Indo-Nepal border this year, which is more than double the quantity seized last year. The food grains seized on Indo-Bangladesh border, showed a decline from over 49,500 kilograms to nearly 41, 500 kilograms. Over one lakh kilograms of narcotics were seized since 2007 from borders with the three neighbouring countries.
