Two earthquakes of 6.4 and 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Fiji

Two earthquakes of 6.4 and 5.9 on the Richter scale hit off Udu, the northernmost point of the Fiji chain, this morning. Fiji's Nadi Weather Office said a magnitude of 6.4 quake occurred at 10:49 a.m. local time with a depth of 100 miles below sea level while another tremor of 5.9 magnitude followed at a depth of 8.3 miles below sea level. Reports said the tremors were felt in Fiji's northeastern Lambasa and Savusavu areas. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
