The two day talks between Iran and P5 plus one countries got underway in Geneva on Monday on nuclear issue amid reports that Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in producing uranium yellowcake, which is the raw material for enrichment. The European Union's top diplomat, Catherine Ashton, is conducting the talks with Iran's chief negotiator Saeed Jalili. Diplomats from six major powers have come to Geneva to meet Iran's chief nuclear negotiator. On Sunday , Iran declared that country has become self-sufficient in entire fuel cycle as it shipped the first consignment of yellow cake from Gachin mine in Bandar Abbas of southern Iran, to Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF). White House official Mike Hammer said that this step calls into further question Iran's intentions and raises additional concerns at a time when Iran needs to address the concerns of the international community.Talks got under way amid tension over Tehran's claim of a breakthrough in uranium production. This meeting is the first high-level discussions between the two sides since October 2009 and first after the fourth round of sanctions imposed on the country in June this year. Analysts are not pinning great hopes from the talks as Iran has already announced that these talks with will not include the nuclear issue and it will negotiate the issue of a nuclear fuel swap with the Vienna group within the framework of the Tehran declaration. However, Europe's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, has specified that the discussion would focus on the nuclear programme. Iran insists that it has right to enrichment as a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and has vowed to continue. However, a number of nations, including the United States, believe Iran's nuclear program is for military purposes, a claim Iran has always denied.
