Two day Commerce Secretary level talks begin in New Delhi tomorrow

The two day Commerce Secretary level talks begin in New Delhi tomorrow to give a push to the bilateral trade. Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar will hold discussion with his Pakistani counterpart Zafar Mehmood in New Delhi. Mr Mehmood told reporters on his arrival to New Delhi that the trade relations between the two countries can not normalise without invoking the Most Favoured Nation, MFN status because both the countries are signatory of the World Trade Organisation. He said that the WTO obligates all members to observe the MFN status and India and Pakistan are working on it. Our correspondent reports that the two Commerce Secretaries will examine the progress made in the area of trade and commerce since their last meeting.AIR correspondent reports, the meeting between the two secretaries takes place immediately after the Prime Minister's of India and Pakistan decided to put on fast track to realise full potential of bilateral trade. India and Pakistan have also decided to establish a preferential trade agreement paving the way for tariff reduction in a number of items. It is expected that Pakistan will prune the negative list of items exported to that country. This will help grow export of textiles, engineering goods, chemicals and raw materials to Pakistan. The two countries have set a trade target of 2.6 billion US dollars in the next three years.
