Two BSF personnel killed in militant attack near IAF airfield in J&K

Two BSF personnel were killed while four others injured when militants opened fired at their vehicle just outside the Awantipora IAF airfield in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The deceased BSF personnel have been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Rudal Yadav and Head Constable Subedar Singh Yadav. Immediately after the firing, the other BSF personnel present on the spot retaliated but the militants fled. The remaining four injured BSF personnel were later shifted to Army Hospital Srinagar.

Official sources said a squad of Border Security Force personnel was changing guard at the airfield in Pulwama, 33 kms from Srinagar, on Saturday afternoon when a group of militants opened fire at them from automatic weapons.

The BSF is deployed for securing the Indian Air Force airfield and the squad that came under militant attack belongs to BSF's 165th battalion.

Soon after the attack Army, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned off the entire area and launched massive search operations to nab the ultras.

This is the fourth attack launched by militants during the current week in Pulwama district. In the earlier three attacks during this week, militants killed two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel, one Railway Police constable, one civilian besides injuring 8 BSF personnel.
