Twin blasts killed six persons in Assam

In Assam, six persons died and 54 others injured when two powerful blasts rocked the heart of the Nalbari town one after another within a span of 15 minutes this morning. Five of them died on-the-spot while another succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. The first bomb, planted about 50 feet away from the Nalbari Police Station, went off at around 9.45 this morning followed by another at 10.00 a.m. Several shops and vehicles parked in the busy town area have been damaged following the blasts. 34 seriously injured have been rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital while rest of the wounded are admitted to nearby Mukunda Kakati Civil Hospital in Nalbari town. Police suspect ULFA militants behind the blasts. Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive hunt in the locality to apprehend the culprits involved in the blasts.AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports the ever busy Nalbari town in lower Assam wore a deserted look and a bandh-like situation prevailed immediately after the blasts. Scared people rushed to their own homes amidst high tension. Shops and markets were also closed following fear of more blasts. <br/>
