Twin blasts in Uganda: Death toll rises to 78

The death toll in the twin blasts in Ugandan capital of Kampala late last night has risen to 78. Local police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba told reporters that the first explosion in Ethiopian Village restaurant, south of Kampala, killed 15 people, including ten Ethiopians and Eritreans, one Indian, one American and three Ugandans. The second one ripped through Kyadondo Rugby Club, east of Kampala, where hundreds of football fans were watching the World Cup final. So far, 57 people were hospitalized and another 14 were treated for minor injuries and discharged. Three Americans who were among the injured were airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment. Ugandan government has set up identification and trauma centers at Mulago Hospital and Kampala International Hospital.
